Sumire’s Dream (菫の夢) follows the life of Sumire, a high school student who was raised by her adoptive mother after her biological mother, Tsutsuji, died during childbirth. Tsutsuji’s death left Sumire with a deep sense of something missing in her life. Her adoptive mother, the nurse who helped deliver her, loved her like her own, but Sumire was haunted by the absence of knowledge about her biological family. Growing up with a passion for painting and caring for flowers, particularly azaleas—her mother’s favorite—Sumire often found herself yearning for answers about her origins. Despite her adoptive mother’s love, there were unspoken questions about her biological father, who had never been part of her life.
One day, Sumire receives a letter from Himawari, her older sister whom she had never met. The letter reveals that Himawari has been searching for Sumire for years. Their reunion is emotional, but also complex, as Himawari harbors deep resentment toward their father, a man who abandoned them and was abusive toward their mother. Himawari reveals that if she ever encountered their father again, she would confront him violently. Sumire, confused and curious, starts to piece together the fragmented history of her family. The revelation of their father’s past actions and their mother's death opens old wounds.
